Bud Clarke, Founder of OilBud Oil Coolers, Tests Three Oil Coolers on Bikes Over a Mountain Pass with Great Results
We're checking the oil temperatures on three motorcycles today. We have Alex Lee, Eric, and myself, Bud Clarke. Alex doesn't have a temperature gauge on his bike, so we temporarily put one in his oil tank. It’s currently reading 197°F. We just finished a ride over a mountain pass that lasted about 35 to 40 minutes.
The motorcycles all have OilBuds on them. The oil temperatures ranged between 195°F and 200°F in the oil tanks. Coming out of the oil coolers, the temperature was between 175°F and 180°F on all the bikes. Actually, Alex doesn’t have an oil temperature gauge, but we inserted one into his oil tank, and it read just under 200°F after the ride. His bike has a Milwaukee 8 engine, while the other two bikes are Twin Cam models.
Now, let’s take a look at my bike. I have a temperature gauge, and it was reading around 190°F. Coming out of the oil cooler, the temperature was between 178°F and 182°F, which was the highest I observed going over the pass.
Next, we're checking the temperature on Eric’s bike. We’ll check the gauge to see what’s coming out of the cooler. The bike has been stopped for a few minutes, so the temperature will likely go up to about 175°F. While riding, Eric mentioned his bike was running at just under 170°F. As for the oil tank, it’s holding around 2.7 quarts, and this was also after going over a mountain pass. Overall, the temperatures are looking pretty good.
